The second part of the journey is just starting

In January 2022, Publicis Groupe announced the acquisition of Tremend, the Bucharest software engineering company founded in 2005. Publicis Sapient marked the day on LinkedIn with a short line: “Welcome to the fam, Tremend!” This was my note when I shared it.

The first part of our journey at Tremend has been a blast, the second part is just starting!

§Where the first part ended

The first part took sixteen years. At the time of the announcement, Tremend had about 650 software engineers, and its clients included Carrefour, ING and Orange. The press release described it as a fast-growing and independent company in Central and Eastern Europe.

The second part had a concrete shape from day one. Tremend became Publicis Sapient’s newest global delivery centre, part of a plan to expand its delivery in Europe. The stated goal was to grow the team to 2,500 people by 2025. Tremend kept its name and its Bucharest base, now as a company of Publicis Sapient.

§What the second part looked like

Some of it became visible within months. That July, 150 trainees started at Tremend and Publicis Sapient in a single summer programme. Less than four years later, the consortium of Sapient GmbH and Tremend was ranked by the ECB for two digital euro components.

An acquisition is usually told in numbers: headcount, clients, targets. The note I wrote that day was about the people behind them. A company that stays independent for sixteen years does so because others keep choosing it, as employees, as clients and as partners.
